PTSD

PTSD

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

Most people who go through traumatic events may have temporary difficulty adjusting and coping, but with time and good self-care, they usually get better. If the symptoms get worse, last for months or even years, and interfere with your day-to-day functioning, you may have PTSD.

ClearMind Psychiatry does not explicitly offer crisis care, but you never have to feel alone. If the occasion arises where you are in emotional distress or thinking about hurting yourself or others, please use the following resources:

  • Call 911 or go to your local emergency department to receive care from appropriately trained professionals.
  • The Crisis Text Line provides 24-hour free and confidential help. Text ‘HOME’ to 741-741 to connect with a counselor immediately.
  • Call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 to talk with a live counselor 24 hours per day.
